Tosca is a large-scale mixed media painting informed by the structure and emotional range of Puccini's opera of the same name. The composition reflects the rhythm of operatic music—movement, pause, and contrast—translated into layered gesture and line.
The palette centers on blush, ivory, plums, white, and soft rose tones, with darker, bold accents of black, umber, deep yellow, and Venetian red. Broad, expressive marks are balanced by more controlled linear elements and areas of open space, creating a composition that feels both active and resolved.
The title also carries a personal reference. Named in homage to the artist's mother, who studied voice at La Scala in Milan and whose first aria was from a Puccini opera, the work reflects a long-standing connection to Puccini's music. Rather than illustrating the opera, the painting draws from its sense of structure and emotional variation.
Presented in a custom unfinished Sapele wood floater frame.
